April 2024 Podcasts
We were on a lot of podcasts in April. Check out these episodes, and support our friends!
Today, we’re starting a new theme on Relationship 101. On the last day of the month, we want to share our podcast and media review. We wanted to give a shoutouts to a few different podcasters, and send a special thanks to these folks for having me and Julia on their shows this month!
Please give these episodes a listen. And of course, please give their podcasts (and our podcast) a 5 star review on Apple Podcasts!
Turn Me On
We talk with hosts Jeremie and Bryde about the restrictive gendered messages around relationships and sexuality that exist within evangelical, Mormon, and Pentecostal communities. We also explore the challenges of existing in both religious and philosophical spaces and the grief that can come with leaving a religious community. We highlight the importance of expanding options for healthy relationships and sexuality, at a pace that is appropriate for those in treatment.
Get Naked with Dr. Kate
Julia and I talked with
about the impact that Evangelical, Mormon, and Pentecostal communities can have on one's relationship to pleasure and sex. We also discuss the sense of grief and loss that can come hand in hand with the freedom of exiting high control environments, and practices for redefining the role of importance that sex plays in your life.Cheers to Leaving!
We chatted with Rachael Kuttes and Cameron Smith about the aftermath of Purity Culture, including the relational and individual scars that get left behind. As they write in their intro, the word/theme for this episode is “devastating”. We discuss sex expectations in purity culture, relationships, relationships during and after deconstructing, late-stage adolescence, sex therapy and much more.
Now I See: Eye Opening Stories from the Formerly Faithful
Technically speaking, this was released on March 30, but we’ll count it into this month. We kick off season 2 with Amber White by talking about the impact of Easter theology on relationships and sexuality. We also share our movement from Evangelical participants to sex therapists working with people who are discovering (or rediscovering) their sexuality after painful religious experiences.
Butterflies and Bravery
We talked with our hosts, Whisper and Jemima, about sexual relational health once one leaves a cult/cult-like community. We also get into an interesting conversation about forced vulnerability and perceived injury. This is one of our longer interviews, which was nice because it allowed us to give more context to our story.
I Was a Teenage Fundamentalist
Brian and Troy, hosts of the podcast, were kind enough to play our episode on Consent on their podcast. We’ll be returning the favor in two weeks and playing one of their episodes as well.
Thank you for all of your support! Weekly newsletter and this week’s episode are coming out tomorrow. We’ll have another Relationship 101 article on Friday as well.
Let’s heal together!
